Benefit of Emergency Broadband in Maryland

Low-income households can receive a subsidy of up to $15 per month toward the cost of internet service through the Maryland Emergency Broadband Benefit ("MEBB") program. Eligible consumers can receive a monthly discount of up to $45 with this subsidy, which is in addition to the $30 monthly benefit offered by the federal FCC Program ("FCC"). It allows households to avoid making the decision to buy other necessities or to forgo having broadband at home.

To be eligible for this benefit, households must be enrolled in the Federal Communications Commission's FCC Program ("FCC"). Monthly internet bills for qualifying households enrolled in internet providers registered for the FCC and MEBB can be lowered by up to $45.

Internet service providers who have partnered with Maryland to accept the Emergency Broadband Benefit are also accepting the FCC subsidy. Look through the list of internet service providers offering the $30 FCC and $15 MEBB. To participate, customers should communicate with their internet service providers directly.

The program for FCC offers:

A $30 monthly benefit designed to make high-speed internet service more affordable for households.
If the household resides on eligible tribal lands, they are eligible for a monthly discount of up to $75.
A one-time discount of up to $100 off of a desktop, laptop, or tablet (with a co-payment of at least $10 but not more than $50).

If you or your household head are one of the following, you might be eligible for the FCC and MEBB:

Possess a salary that is at least 200% of the federal poverty threshold.
Engages in specific aid initiatives such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, Lifeline, Federal Public Housing Assistance, and so forth.
Gets Survivors Benefit and Pension for Veterans.
Are authorized to obtain benefits from the school breakfast or free and reduced-price lunch programs.

Digital Equity

Grant Program for Digital Inclusion

To support the state's efforts to promote digital inclusion, the Digital Inclusion grant gives money to community-based anchor institutions, 501(c) organizations, and local governments. Projects centered on the planning and execution of digital inclusion will be funded by this grant opportunity.

Planning for Digital Inclusion:

Up to 50% of the cost of a plan will be covered by financial assistance. For Digital Inclusion Planning, there is a $30,000 maximum grant request amount and a $5,000 minimum.

Implementation of Digital Inclusion Program:

The Office will assist in the awarding of financial support for the development, implementation, and upkeep of Digital Inclusion Program(s) up to a maximum of 100%.For Digital Inclusion Implementation, there is a $75,000 maximum grant request amount and a $10,000 minimum.
